BREAK DOWN (4:58) (NOTE: Slight alteration of mix uploaded 3-15-2023)
Well, this tune has ended up being what I will call the END of Side A. I’ve got my work cut out for me to get going on SIDE B. This tune was started in 1985 on Belmont Blvd. in Nashville TN. I was living in an apartment, and one day looking out at leaves falling of the trees. That's where verse 1 came from. During a song challenge in November of 2010 back in Canton MS at Union Street Song Writers night, I came up with version 1 of this song. In 2019 I was revamping about 3 songs, while my wife was in CT visiting her family. This song is one that I revamped and made some pretty big changes to in the CHORUS, though the verses for most part, lyrically stayed the same. The feel jumped out at me as much more free and moving than the original and I went with it. I did a live demo at a practice in my office at Small Town Music, using a Canon camera I normally take photos with to list gear on Ebay or Reverb. Well I finally got around to a studio demo, and this is it, for release first a BandCamp.com. I have plenty of music at CD baby, and iTunes, Wal Mart LOL, man when it hits digital, you just never know. Anyways, I think I had some in depth notes about this and cannot find them. Rather than start all over, I’ll just say, this is a song about how Faith, even Faith in God and Jesus, is not a stationary thing. I truly believe God would have us continue to grow, not to just suddenly be saved and know everything. Ah, the beauty of life. Verse ONE sort of about life and death in general. Verse TWO, a child growing up and using that in analogy form for faith in general. Last verse, moving a little out of tradition, mentioning God as she, but simply me saying God help me, and I’ll do my best to help others. That’s it for now.
Peace be with you. Frazier
lyrics
BREAK DOWN ( Bmin/D ) (4:47)
V1 - As I watch the leaves fall from the trees, and blow off somewhere with the
breeze, I see the way that it's gonna be. And as my youth it ebbs away, I child
is born and so I say, that life and death, they are both for me.
CHORUS - Would you break down and cry with me? Would you laugh and
smile and joke with me? Would you lift me up upon a tree?
V2 - As I watch a child at two years old, laugh and smile before she's told,
"that stove is hot, you'll burn your hand". But, she reaches out in innocence
and as the smile turn to a wince, she starts to cry. She's learning why;
Faith is not a one way street, there's a middle where we meet, to find what's
true in what we do. But what we do is so damn wrong, I won't sing it in this
song. Ain't that a shame? We're to blame.
CHORUS - Would you break down and cry with me? Would you laugh and
smile and joke with me? Would you lift me up and set me free?
(instrumental over chorus - then)
V3 - And so I seek God's trust again, asking her to let me in and fill my cup,
not beat me up. That I might prophesy to you, helping us to make it through
the here and now, as we're learning how.
CHORUS - Would you break down and cry with me? Would you laugh and
smile and joke with me? Would you lift me up upon a tree?
Would you break down and cry with me? Would you laugh and
smile and joke with me? Would you lift me up and set me free?
